Student Government Association at UAHuntsville provides a forum for the free and open expression of student ideas and opinions, is a liaison from the students to University administration, works to instill a sense of community on campus, and assists in creating an atmosphere conductive to academic achievement.

SGA is composed of a legislative and executive branch.

The legislative branch is made up of senators who are elected each fall and spring semester and represent the 5 colleges (Business, Engineering, Liberal Arts, Nursing and Science) and the 4 classes (freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors).

The senate has several working committees including the following: public relations, campus affairs, student organizations, finance, and rules & revisions. Each senator is assigned to work on at least one committee.

The executive branch is made up of the Student Body President and Vice President along with their executive cabinet.

The executive cabinet is made up of a variety of student leaders who work on projects that are determined annually by the SGA leadership.

SGA Projects and Initiatives for 2011-2012 include:
  • Student Planner
  • Chick Fil-A LeaderCast in August 2011
  • Trunk or Treat
  • The Big Event: Annual Community Service Day held each spring
  • Higher Education Day: Annual lobbying event for students in Alabama
  • Campaign for Change
  • Check out SGA on YouTube (UAHChargersSGA)

What does SGA do for you?
  • If you get involved with SGA, you can get real world experience with planning meetings and events, working with campus administrators, and developing your own personal leadership skills.
  • Advocates on your behalf to university administrators and state government officials
  • Allocates student fee monies to student organizations
  • Creates opportunities for student’s voices to be heard in important campus decisions

How can you get involved?
  • Run for a senate seat! Elections are held each fall and spring semester.
  • Volunteer for an executive board committee
  • Attend SGA events and meetings
  • Talk with your SGA senator about concerns and ideas you have for SGA and UAHuntsville
