The UAH Student Government Association is an organization composed of students of all majors and class rankings that serve to represent the entire spectrum of the student body. The SGA is responsible for giving a voice to student concerns, overseeing the creation of new organizations on campus to enhance student life, hosting events (such as the Niagara Road Trip or Frosh Mosh), and many other projects. All of this is achieved by collaboration between the Executive Branch, the Legislative Branch, and the Judicial Branch.
Executive Branch
- Consists of the President, Vice President, and their appointees who have been approved by the Senate.
- Runs the day-to-day operation of the SGA, guides the Senate, and organizes the SGA's special projects.
- President and Vice President are voted upon by the student body and serve one year terms.
Legislative Branch - The Senate
- Senators are drawn from each college and class ranking, ensuring that all views are considered for any issue.
- The Senate passes articles of legislation, charters organizations, and appropriates SGA funds.
- Each Senator serves on one of four committees: Campus Affairs, Clubs and Organizations, Finance, and Rules and Revisions.
- Senators are voted upon by the student body at the same time as the President and Vice President and they also serve one year terms.
Judicial Branch - The Supreme Court
- Made up of members called Praetors.
- Weighs upon the constitutionality of any piece of Legislation.
- Hears student grievances concerning SGA operation.
